SCAN-DA-LOUS Deal!

I want to offer you a SCAN-DA-LOUS deal! Pre-paid scanning – read below for savings.

GOT PHOTOS TO SCAN? Are they in boxes, bags, envelopes? Are they spread across the house? Did you inherit them from your parents?  Who is enjoying them and who ARE the people in those photos?

Preserve those memories and get them in a manageable digital format – safe from fire, flood, decomposition, dust and loss.

Scanning them yourself on a flat-bed scanner is a labor-intensive and tedious job!  It takes an average of 4 minutes to scan and process one photo!  If you have 1000 photos (the number in an average shoe box), that process would take you a minimum of 66 HOURS to get them on a CD or flash drive so you could use them!!

Bring your boxes of photos to me and I will get scan them on my high speed Kodak scanner – for a SCAN-DA-LOUS price!

My normal price is .39/scan, but for the month of November, I am offering this service for a low .19 each!  That’s only $19 for 100 photos!

Refer a friend that scans with me and receive 100 FREE scans! (no limit)
Call me today to reserve a drop-off and pick-up date. Bring along a flash drive and/or have your photos burned to high-quality DVD’s for an additional charge.

1100 Scans-$190 (savings of $239 over regular price!)

Scan-a-thon to Benefit Relay for Life

Your Photos!  Are they safe?  Are they protected?  Do you have photos you have “inherited” and want to share them with the rest of the family?

We have a solution for you!  This Saturday, April 2, Abigail of the “Little Bumps” Relay for Life team is hosting a Scan-a-Thon at the Hutchinson Mall.

You simply gather up all the photos you would like scanned, sort them into envelopes by the categories you’d like them put in, and bring them along with a Flash Drive to be scanned.  We will scan them, including touch up and return them to you ready to load onto your computer and archived on digital media.

We are offering this service at our lowest price possible – .19 per scan!  .08 from each photo goes to Abi’s Relay Team!

Come and help out a good cause – and help yourself preserve those precious memories – fast and easy!

How do the Pros protect their photos?

Make a copy

According to the experts at Corbis, the company who sells rights to photos for customer use and has a collection of over 1,000,000 images, the most important thing you can do is make a copy of your favorite photo and display that instead of the original or create digital storybooks, canvases, cards, and other projects. Sunlight, the air and humidity are all photographs worse enemies. Most people want to display their most valuable or prized image, but that’s the worse thing you can do.

Don’t put them in the freezer

While professional collections are often held in -20 degree temps, trying to do the same by putting your photographs in your freezer at home is a bad idea. “The humidity would ruin them in days”. Plus if the power gets turned off the last thing you want is ice cream over your favorite holiday snaps.

Meta, meta, meta

How many times have you looked at an old picture and wondered what, who, where and why? The more information you can write on the back (with an archival pen) the better. If that sounds like a bore, at least write down who is in the picture and when you took it. That way, when your descendants look at them 100 years from now it will help them more than you can imagine to piece together the jigsaw of your memories.

Store in a cool dry place

It sounds a cliché but storing your photos in a box in a cool dry place is the best bet. The best place for this in your house is your bedroom. “It’s the only room you actively temperature control. Nobody wants to sleep in a hot or cold room”. A downstairs cupboard is equally good, but a family room can get too hot, especially if you have lots of parties or a fire that you regularly light.

Digitize and backup

Scanning old prints should be done to share and archive. The originals are important, but by making a digital copy, you can share with family and friends and give the photo to the memory keeper of the family. If you’ve already gone digital, then make sure you back up your images and don’t keep them on a single drive, and certainly not your laptop that can get stolen. DVD’s are good, but can be easily damaged, but online storage is best – choose a trustworthy source.

Storybooking with Kids!

I had the honor of spending this morning with a delightful group of 6th graders at a local elementary school!  They were bright and curious and wonderful to work with!

They are each making a 7×5 storybook of a topic of their choice.  Some are doing family history books, some a book about their dog.  One girl is including the poetry she wrote.

The thing I love about kids is that they are fearless!  They click with no reservations!  There’s nothing that can be hurt by moving things around or trying something, and they just go for it.

I’m so excited to see what interesting things they include.  They each brought in photos, art, and documents for me to scan and upload into their accounts.  They were curious about how they could get photos off their phones or home computers to include – and understood my explanation of those procedures!

They oohed and aahed when I showed them some of the fun features our studio has – like swapping out different papers and layering elements.  I love the versatility and know they will push it to the limits  – just because they can!

We plan to meet every Thursday morning to work on their projects. I gave them each their own personal account so they can work on their project at home as well.  Once they have their books set up the way they like, their teacher and I will help them tweak their proofreading and layout skills as well.  I plan to post their finished products for all to enjoy!

Gotta love kids!
